![]() Even better (read: worse) when you have to do another 4 songs to get the card for the trophy, puke. Plus the guitar hero sequence was completely awful, ugh. is this all really necessary? Some are actively detrimental to the story - with the Grand Magus final showdown being a guitar hero battle? Really? Let's take this relatively cool villain and just totally jump the shark and pull whatever seriousness straight out of it. ![]() I mean we have ARPG Zelda style, 2D platforming, double dragon iso-ish beat em up, side scrolling SHMUP, top down SHMUP, turn based tactical, ATB/Chrono trigger, guitar hero, atari retro mini game sequence. Also, E2 tries to throw 100 different gameplay styles into this thing. The card game here is awesome too! THE BAD: Well, not EVERYTHING here has to be a reference to something else to be good. Party power ups are good and pretty balanced. Those last 2 scenes during the ending, very good and a lot to think about. As for the story, it is largely a take on Chrono Trigger/butterfly effect type plot (I mean his name is Kuro.) and it does it well, but honestly, executes the time loop/grandfather paradox a bit better here. E2 is largely ARPG Zelda with some 2D platforming for about 90% overall - with 10% being an absolute smattering of everything else (more on that later). The game modes, from gameboy-era green/gray "Magi" era, 8 bit past, 16 bit present and 3D future all work pretty well graphically, sound, and gameplay wise. ![]() The story (despite my hatred of silent protagonists) shapes up to be pretty good, with solid enough character development. 18h Played-I had a big review typed that didn't save ugh, will try to rewrite what I had- Now this is a game! THE GOOD: Most of it! Evoland 2 takes what Evoland 1 was trying to do and turns it into a well-deserved, full-fledged game. ![]()
